Two types of evaluation kits are available for testing and
developing of car navigation product with the MicroInfinity
Carna®
products. The purpose of the MicroInfinity Carna®
Evaluation Kit is to provide a platform on which the MicroInfinity
Carna®
GPS/DR(Dead Reckoning) receivers may be run and on which new
firmware development may take place. The needs of the project
and the technical expertise of the user usually determine
which of two types of evaluation kits should be chosen.
This dual port, MicroInfinity Carna®
Evaluation Kit is suitable for field and laboratory testing
of the MicroInfinity Carna®
GPS/DR(Dead Reckoning) receivers. The first DB-9 connector
is the main RS-232 port and the second DB-9 connector is dedicated
to RTCM-104 Differential GPS (DGPS) correction signal input.
On-board LEDs indicate power on, TXD/RXD. The kit consists
of a MicroInfinity Carna®
Evaluation Kit : 12 channel GPS receiver; active GPS antenna,
power adaptor, CD and standard serial cable. The providing
CD includes monitor software and evaluation kit documentation.

Telematics is a new evolving generation of technology
with communication and location capabilities. The communication
technologies for telematics are mature, but the location technology
has much room for development. GPS (Global Positioning System)
is commonly considered sufficient, but no location information
is provided if the GPS fails, surprisingly this happens frequently
in urban cannon area, under roadside trees, tunnel, underground
parking lot, and under an overpass. MicroInfinity telematics
solutions provide precise and seamless location information
in tough environment.

1. Dead Reckoning (DR): MicroInfinity has developed
GPS/DR/Map-Matching since 1996. The DR configurations are
either gyroscope and odometer or gyroscope and accelerometer
to obtain angular velocity and linear velocity (acceleration).
With the precise sensor calibration and estimation algorithms,
MicroInfinity can provide location information when GPS fails
or shows inaccurate locations due to surrounding factors.
Additionally, DR can record the profiled motions of the car
in case of accident or emergency call. MicroInfinity announce
analysis tools of the recorded motions of the car in 2003.
2. Map Matching (MM): People want to know where the
restaurant, gas station, stores are located. The geographical
informational features appeared in the map and, in most cases,
the car is shown on the mapped road (off-road situations occur
very rarely). With compact and thin numerical map, MicroInfinity
MM indicates where the car is on the map.
3. Global Positioning System (GPS): GPS often considered
to be unaffected by vendors and technology used, but MicroInfinity
has found that the performance and characteristics of GPS
varies by vendors and technologies. Every GPS performs well
when the satellites are in a good configuration and the users
are in open spaces. More realistic performances occur in less-than-ideal
situations such as in urban cannon area, under the roadside
tree, on heavy rainy or snowy days. These environments can
result the multi-path, attenuation and non-line of sight of
GPS satellite signals. MicroInfinity GPS solutions are robust
to these conditions and use DR for enhanced tracking of GPS
satellite signals.
4. GPS/DR/MM: MicroInfinity fuses DR, MM and GPS to
sustain the location information in any conditions. The ultimately
optimized Kalman filters and navigation algorithms give accurate,
robust, and well-defined location information.
